What the Pandemic has taught me about Business.
A common interaction we have at Antler is customers coming up to the shop and asking us how business is going. Fair enough, we are super young, new to business, we sell coffee, thats it. They inquire about starting our company during a pandemic and how it has negatively effected us.
When the March quarantine hit, we began building. Now we are 2 1/2 months in and are ready to begin closing up for the year and prepare to come back strong and early next year. So, how is business?
I find it a huge blessing that we began this in a trivial year. If we began and life was perfect, we had great weather, the economy was flawless, and we had endless lines of people less than 6ft apart, we would be wildly successful. However, we would only be prepared for the ease that comes with perfection.
We built this business model in a way that can be evolved and altered quickly and efficiently if the market demands it. Thats the benefit of years like this, we take the trials and build our business with them not around them. Do not be afraid to hit roadblocks, pass them, grab them, and use them to build your foundation.
Because of covid, I have gotten more point blank business lessons in 3 months than I ever could have working in a perfect world. This year has thrown test after test at us and now we are in position to be off our season for 5 months and come back in the spring. Take your niche (I said this in my last blog post but I’ll say it again) perfect it, be the best in your industry, set yourself apart and show up.
Don’t wait for a better year, take the place you’re in, utilize it, cultivate it, and refine yourself. The smoothest stones are in the roughest part of the stream.
