Take Me Seriously

I suck at working for other people (now mind you I’m a good employee I just always want to take over). So here I find myself in the business world, my favorite place to be. While I love being a women who just turned 22, owns a growing coffee business, and is expanding my own personal small brand, it leaves me with one beaming issue. I am seldom taken seriously.

Before I continue I want to say that SO SO SOOOO many people are beyond supportive, Hunter and I could not be more thankful. That being said, being young, you almost just have to expect it, but doubt and questions are commonplace in business dialogue with others. Currently the number 1 response we get when we talk about our business ventures over the next year is “oh you really think that will work”, if only we were in our 40’s it would be a “oh good for you guys!”.

The push from society to be productive and innovative with our work lives is expected (and correctly so), but when you do these things young, they become illegitimate and risky.

Take young entrepreneurs seriously. I want to be in the room where it happens, I want to have opinions that are considered. I have worked for a long time to be able to network with successful people older than me and be seen as professional. Plus, say I do crash and burn, the knowledge and education I would gain from starting and owning a business is worth more to me than the college degree I wouldn’t be using.

So take me seriously, because I take myself seriously. Even the negative steps along the way are part of your path, so get walking.
