Overcoming Imposter Syndrome as a Young Business Woman

When you are not only married, but own a real business by age 21 people get real “sus” about your life choices. Well today we are diving into my personal journey with all of these things and how I have overcome them (over lots of time).

As a young woman in business there are certain hurtles that appear. Being taken seriously is a large one, and that followed me around for a while. Growing up, I got decent grades but wasn’t the “smart” one by any means. A common thing said to me (to this day) was “aww you’re so pretty”. This was always said when I was trying to contribute to a conversation that seemed to be above my understanding. That one line could take away any credibility my words had, convincing me to back off and just sit there.

I talk about this in a podcast episode that will be launching soon. Publicly announcing your pitch or business idea is not only terrifying, but it permits others 2 cents to be put in. THIS places all your confidence in the hands of “Karen from Ohio”, or “Aunt Debbie” on facebook. Quit asking permission from people who have ZERO desire to own a business.

I overcame my imposter syndrome by learning to show up with captions that say “this is what I did” instead of “this is what I want to do”. Girl, get it done. Learn to wanna be in the “room where it happens”, insert yourself into elevated conversations, love learning, and understand that you’re always going to be growing.

Ya’ll know I like to keep these short so we are going to wrap it up here. Just embed it in your mind that just because other people own a business in the same category or style that you want to, doesn’t mean you don’t have anything special or unique to offer. Your personal twist will bring in a niche customer meant for your business. Okay I could go on and on about this.

Get it done, do it well
